2014 Christmas Shoot

Hello there, long time no blog! By popular demand (from Evan), I'm back again!

Sorry for the delay but I've been having "technical difficulties".

Firstly, I hope that you all had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.

Thank you to those who made it to our Christmas party and last shoot of the year... Tongmaster (aka Garry), Suze, Slade, Gaz and friend Sue, Adam and Jake (of course, they live there!), Evan and his delightful wife Jackie, Ken and Peanut, Paul (he was our "Elf and Safety man lol - his joke, not mine!), Grant and boys, Sam and Clinton (later on). I hope you all had a great day - I did!

Even though we didn't do a full shoot, the targets that were set up were challenging and fun. We saw the running pig come back for the first time in a few years, there was a polar bear in front of a black bear, which was behind a tire (I missed) and beyond that for a long shot was a big red deer (it wasn't a moose!). There was another tricky tire shot with a fox (I missed that too), a cougar/mountain lion/puma, Standing Bear was back (he got shot in the rude bits a few times, poor bugger) and the croc was back looking a bit worse for wear.

After our shoot, we moseyed on back to our humble "clubhouse" for a good feed and a few well-earned drinks. I must say, there was quite a good spread put on too, even if I do say so myself! We could have fed twice as many people with all the food we had - my chicken sticks that I slaved over the night before didn't even get a look-in! The yummy steaks and snags that El Prez provided were plenty. Those who stayed later even got a bit of pav, which was super yummy despite the cream dropping.

We didn't score on the day, which at times I was grateful for and at other times not (like when I got a 10). Evan killed the tire that was in front of the fox, then had a mighty struggle to get his arrow back. The running pig produced lots of laughs and set us all searching for our arrows (I lost one - boohoo, sad face).

Thank you all for your help, but especially to:

  • Gary's friend Sue, who took a heap of photos on my phone
  • Tongmaster (of course)
  • Paul & Evan, for going out early to help set up
  • Clinton, for the time and effort he's put into refurbishing some of our targets
All in all it was a really good day. Thanks to everyone for making 2014 a great year for our club and lets hope this year is even better!

Hope you enjoy this blog and the photos.

Cheers,
Kate

July Shoot

G'day

Thanks to those who attended on Sunday, hope you all had a good day.

Thanks also to:-

  • Clinton, for fixing up 10 of our targets. Great job - they look terrific!
  • Gaz & Adam (and Sam, I think?) for creating a killer new course. Was testing in more ways than one! I don't know about everyone else (except Gaz) but I was absolutely knackered that night.
  • Adam, for putting his hand up for the treasurer's job.
  • Garry (aka Tong Master) for once again manning the bbq.
We had a reasonable turnout and went out in two groups, with Adam and Gaz our group leaders. We were lucky to have a beautiful day for it.

The new course had some really hard shots, with some tricky distances and height variations throwing more than a few of us I think. There's still a bit of work to be done, with hopefully some steps being cut in to make it easier to get around.

Next month we should be organised for the AGM so I hope that we have a good attendance for that. Its a good opportunity to bring anything up that you would like discussed or put forward suggestions.

Some sad news for our member and friend Pete Lucas, whose Dad passed away last weekend. I'm sending a card out on behalf of all of us at the club expressing our sympathies - its a hard thing to lose someone, especially a family member.

Check out the photos, thanks Gaz for being our photographer.

Take care all & feel free to comment. (I have no idea how to format the photos on this, can anyone help lol?)

Hi there to whoever reads this!

Well last weekend's shoot was a good day, not too big a crowd so we had 3 reasonable size groups. Fortunately the weather held up.

I'd like to thank Rob, Peter & Tess, Dean & Lilly and Andrew for coming along. Hope you enjoyed your first shoot. Actually, I know Andrew did because he sent me a lovely email which I'll share here.

Score-wise, Clinton was our shooter of the day with 143 - well done Clinton (and thanks for your help with our new shooters). Gaz & Evan came equal second with 123 and Sam in 3rd place with 116.

Poor Adam blew up a couple of his arrows, but redeemed himself by being an excellent tong-master in Gary's absence. As for myself, I was extremely happy with 71 (I know its low but its probably one of my highest!). I was pleasantly surprised to hit the target more often than not, considering I hadn't shot for some months.

For anyone interested, I spoke to Phil from Leeville recently (he was supposed to be coming last Sunday). He's the one who keeps me updated about their shoot weekends. I'm not sure if anyone went out to the State of Origin at Casino on the long weekend but apparently they had 198 shooters!

I came home with a couple of visitors, whose presence I wasn't aware of until the next night - bloody ticks! How on earth they made their way through the layers of clothes onto my back I don't know!

Anyway, that's it for now, looking forward to next shoot as always!

Cheers
