August Shoot

Hi all,

Haven't posted anything for a while so thought I'd share a bit about our last shoot.

To begin with, it was a BIG day! I think we set a new record for the club with 22 visitors and 33 shooters! (Adam's front yard looked like a car park). The weather wasn't great with a bit of drizzle but it didn't stop anyone.

Its great seeing so many new people enjoying themselves while discovering the fun of 3D archery. We are very fortunate to have such a generous president who allows the club to use his property, which is a beautiful spot to shoot at.

I did my usual panic (how many people there were, did we have enough equipment, did we have enough sausages!, who was going out with who) but thankfully had help from Raffs and Clinton in organising groups. (We ended up with 5).

It was also our first shoot with 20 targets using our new, challenging A and B course. Personally I enjoyed it immensely and judging by the looks on everyone else's faces, I'm not the only one. Thanks to Adam, Gary, Raffs and Clinton (sorry if I forgot anyone) for setting the new course up.

As our club is growing, we have purchased some new bows and targets and hopefully these will be put to use at the next shoot in September. Also due to the expansion of the club, we are looking more seriously into finding an alternative site to locate our club. This will be discussed soon among members and if anyone has any ideas, please feel free to share them.

I haven't got many photos to share as it was a bit overcast but there are a few. (If anyone ever takes any photos on shoots that you would like to share, please forward them to me for approval and inclusion in the next blog).

One of the photos is of Justin carrying a log back to the clubhouse, having been unable to extract his arrow. What followed was an entertaining 20 mins or so of watching him and Jerome getting it out, with the help of a couple of observers (who I'm sure were offering advice) and of Evan's tiny tomahawk.

Anyway, that's it for now. Hope everyone's enjoying our shoots and our friendly little club.

May Shoot

Well hi again, its been a while!

Can't believe we're almost halfway through the year already, before we know it we'll be talking about the Christmas party again.

Its really nice to see so many new faces out at archery over the last few months. I hope that you're all enjoying your time with our club and having fun on our shoots.

Last Sunday we had about 18 shooters, a lot of them being newcomers! Young Oska is proving to be rather a natural at archery, getting a very respectable 107. Clinton is still leading the pack with his score this week being 172. Evan came in 2nd with 150 with Justin close behind on 146. Jackie is showing me up (not that hard) with her compound, shooting 132 - very nice!

Ken's young Nate (Peanut) would have to have scored the shot of the day, getting a 10 on the standing bear. Luckily a photo was taken before the arrow fell out! Ken himself got a great shot into a tree and didn't even wreck his arrow!

El Prez was shooting again after having a bit of time off due to an arm injury but after losing 3 arrows, I'm wondering if he wishes he'd waited another month. At least his weren't the only arrows lost. We might have to get someone to come along next time and borrow Evan's metal detector and run it around - who knows what will turn up??

I mentioned the Casino State of Origin weekend shoot in June in an email recently but it didn't generate much interest, which is a little bit of a shame. I'm sure that if anyone wanted to attend they'd be welcomed anyway. If you're thinking of attending, just get in touch with the Casino club.

I've only got a couple of photos to share this time, but please if you ever take any on a shoot day and want them included let me know.

2014 Christmas Shoot

Hello there, long time no blog! By popular demand (from Evan), I'm back again!

Sorry for the delay but I've been having "technical difficulties".

Firstly, I hope that you all had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.

Thank you to those who made it to our Christmas party and last shoot of the year... Tongmaster (aka Garry), Suze, Slade, Gaz and friend Sue, Adam and Jake (of course, they live there!), Evan and his delightful wife Jackie, Ken and Peanut, Paul (he was our "Elf and Safety man lol - his joke, not mine!), Grant and boys, Sam and Clinton (later on). I hope you all had a great day - I did!

Even though we didn't do a full shoot, the targets that were set up were challenging and fun. We saw the running pig come back for the first time in a few years, there was a polar bear in front of a black bear, which was behind a tire (I missed) and beyond that for a long shot was a big red deer (it wasn't a moose!). There was another tricky tire shot with a fox (I missed that too), a cougar/mountain lion/puma, Standing Bear was back (he got shot in the rude bits a few times, poor bugger) and the croc was back looking a bit worse for wear.

After our shoot, we moseyed on back to our humble "clubhouse" for a good feed and a few well-earned drinks. I must say, there was quite a good spread put on too, even if I do say so myself! We could have fed twice as many people with all the food we had - my chicken sticks that I slaved over the night before didn't even get a look-in! The yummy steaks and snags that El Prez provided were plenty. Those who stayed later even got a bit of pav, which was super yummy despite the cream dropping.

We didn't score on the day, which at times I was grateful for and at other times not (like when I got a 10). Evan killed the tire that was in front of the fox, then had a mighty struggle to get his arrow back. The running pig produced lots of laughs and set us all searching for our arrows (I lost one - boohoo, sad face).

Thank you all for your help, but especially to:

• Gary's friend Sue, who took a heap of photos on my phone
• Tongmaster (of course)
• Paul & Evan, for going out early to help set up
• Clinton, for the time and effort he's put into refurbishing some of our targets

All in all it was a really good day. Thanks to everyone for making 2014 a great year for our club and lets hope this year is even better!
